Cate, 1843. 8vo. First edition. Publisher’s full brown cloth, original paper title label (chipped). Binding worn, soiled, holes to joints, gutter facing front blank cracked, hinges starting, front blank with contemporary ink inscription with burn holes due to ink, some related ink spots to title-page, text toned, with occasional foxing, soiling, a few pages with extensive later pencil notes. A good copy of this gritty (and sometimes overblown) memoir of a criminal. “Wyman was an audacious and incorrigible thief and swindler, but his prominence was more literary than criminal” (DNB XX, p. 586).
