12mo. Printed on blue paper. Chromolithograph frontispiece of the coca plant. Original gilt-lettered dark green cloth (spine a bit darkened, some rubbing at corners).

FIRST EDITION of one of the earliest books in English dealing with cocaine as a curative. Cocaine was first used by the Viennese physician Karl Koller in 1884 as a local anesthetic, soon spreading throughout Europe and America as a universal “cure-all”.
