8vo. Portrait frontispiece from a photograph of the author, numerous illustrations by Arthur Gearfield Learned. Original turquois cloth lettered in gilt and burgundy (few spots of soiling to upper cover, else fine); silk slipcase with Asian motifs.

FIRST EDITION, laid in with the author’s visiting card. “[A] memoir of a morphine addict saved by Christ. Although he calls himself an opium eater in the manner of De Quincey, the author usually injected morphine” (Phantastica 45, this copy).

[With:] another copy in a variant brown cloth and a second edition in the rare printed wrappers. Both Horowitz high spots.
