MUSSET, Alfred de (1810-1857). L’Anglais Mangeur d’Opium. Paris: Le Moniteur du Bibliophile, 1878.
Small 4to. Original printed wrappers, uncut; folding chemise and morocco-backed slipcase.
SECOND FRENCH EDITION. [With:] another copy in full contemporary cloth. In 1828 at the age of eighteen, Musset translated Thomas De Quincey’s Confessions of an Opium Eater. It was considered the most weird, unfaithful, highly personalized translations ever made with extraordinary deletions, additions, and errors.
