8vo. Title printed in red and black with engraved vignette (offsetting and a small scorch mark to title, some browning). Early 19th century marbled boards, spine labels with hand-titling (extremities rubbed, tilting worn).

FIRST EDITION of this rare and early work on opium. The title vignette depicts a turbaned man drawing with his knife an incision in the seed capsule of the opium poppy and in the other a pan his held to collect the juice from the opium. AN EARLY ILLUSTRATION OF THIS OPERATION. Pritzel 10054; Waring II:585 (a second edition in 1682 reprinted in 1739); not in Waring. A Horowitz high spot.
