Small folio. Title-page printed in red and black. Original blindstamped green cloth, gilt-lettered spine, top edge gilt, others uncut (some spotting at lower edge of covers, light wear to extreme ends).

Fifth edition, one of 50 large paper copies. INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR to J. Lossing and laid in with a 2pp. ALS from the author to the recipient of the book. Included with a 5pp. typed “Extract from the story told by Thomas Sweet Lossing of his boyhood days in Duchess County”. The Massachusetts Historical Society was the nation’s first historical society, and its early publications are sought after by collectors. [With:] a first edition of this work dated 1862.
