2 volumes, 8vo. 24 lithograph plates by August Hervieu (few plates shaved near captions). Half contemporary black calf, marbled sides, spines in 6 compartments with flat bands, red and burgundy lettering pieces in 2, others with floral centerpieces gilt (some rubbing to boards).
Second edition, first published earlier the same year. Trollope (mother of novelist Anthony Trollope) lived in Cincinnati for three years while her husband ran an unsuccessful retail business. Her opinion of the United States and the manners of its citizens was not favorable. Howes T-357.
