Provenance: faint gift inscription from “Uncle Walton” dated 1867 on half-title; Charles Sessler Bookseller (typed catalogue note laid in).

Half-title, 1pp. publisher’s ads for Dodgson’s works on Q1v, frontispiece and illustrations by John Tenniel. 20th century red morocco gilt, covers with central gilt stamps of the Red Queen on the front cover and the White Queen on the rear, covers framed in gilt, spines in 6 compartments with raised bands, gilt-lettering in two, others completely gilt, edges gilt, turn-ins gilt, GILT STAMP-SIGNED BY ROOT & SON; original cloth bound in at end; together with the first work housed in cloth slipcase. FIRST EDITION, FIRST STATE of p. 21, with the misprint “wade” for “wabe” in the second line of the poem “Jabberwocky”, and with the pagination on p. 95 and without on p. 98 (no priority).
