[PHOTOGRAPHS]. MORRISON, William McKenzie (American, 1857-1927). Catalogue of portraits of actors and boxers. Chicago: Haymarket Theatre, [ca. 1888]. Photo album of 51 leaves on cardstock (rectos only) of mounted catalogue photos (each photo consists of 25 thumbnail photos of actors, actresses, with two leaves of boxers). Leaves 6 ½ x 4 ¼”. Album bound in full dark brown cloth, with later tape on spine (binding worn, soiled, hinges cracked, ink notes to front pastedown, some soiling to leaves, one of the leaves of boxer’s photos is loose). Most leaves with somewhat later ink notations on each leaf (changing the inventory number on the photos). Good. Morrison was the most successful theatrical portrait photographer in Chicago of the late nineteenth century. He set up a studio in the Haymarket Theatre due to the natural light afforded him by its skylight. Actors include Maude Adams, Effie Shannon, Wallie Eddinger, Joseph Hart, Beatrice Hamilton and many more. Boxers include champions James J. Corbett, John L. Sullivan, Australian boxer Peter Jackson, Ovan Lewis, Billy Delaney, and manager and promoter, William A. Brady.
