[CIRCUS POSTERS]. Archive of photographs and prints of circus posters and poster maquettes. American, ca. 1910s—30s. Approximately 200 prints (and one glass negative) documenting circus poster art, some annotated with printer’s notations (number of sheets, inventory numbers). Size generally 5 x 8” and smaller. This archive documents scores of different posters and acts with Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey, Al G. Barnes, Hagenbeck-Wallace, Sells-Floto, Christy Bros., and other leading circuses of the early 20th century. Among the posters shown are rare and large, billboard-size posters which may only survive in these photographs, as well as preliminary sketches and possibly unproduced poster art from the Golden Age of the circus. [With]: souvenir scissors from the Ringling Bros. Golden Jubilee, 1933.
