Original blindstamped dark brown cloth, gilt-lettered spine, woman stamped in silver at foot of spine (joints starting, ends worn, light rubbing at extremes). (Few leaves chipped at outer margins). Provenance: neat penciled ownership signature dated 1860.
FIRST AMERICAN EDITION of Collins’s mystery-detective novel, preceding the English edition by one month (but probably both were published in the last half of August).
