FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING (jacket rear panel has reviews for The Bridge on the River Kwai only, and no mentions of later printings on the copyright page). One of the best-selling novels of the 20th century, this was the basis for the 1956 Broadway production, and the 1958 film adaptation, both starring Rosalind Russell. There was a musical version of this novel, Mame, in 1966, starring Angela Lansbury, and another film version in 1974, starring Lucille Ball and Bea Arthur.
