GUNN, James (1920-1966). Deadlier Than the Male. New York: Duell, Sloan and Pearce, [1942].
8vo. Original red cloth, spine lettered in white (spine a bit rubbed, some light marginal soiling to boards); original dust jacket on wove paper (spine sunned and edgeworn with some chipping and some tears, some toning, edgewear, a few short tears, chips to panels).
FIRST EDITION OF THE AUTHOR’S FIRST BOOK AND ONLY PUBLISHED NOVEL. This classic noir was the basis of the controversial (and banned) film, Born to Kill, starring Lawrence Tierney and Clair Trevor; it was directed by Robert Wise. The outcry against the violence in the film caused the studio, RKO, to curb violence in their future films.
