Large 8vo. Original cloth-backed boards; original dust jacket. Provenance: Larry McMurtry (his bookplate, which he designed, features the horseshoe-shaped brand his father and grandfather used on the McMurtry cattle), from his personal library at his home in Archer City; laid in with a TLS to McMurtry from Jeaneane Dowis Lipman, wife of Samuel B. Lipman, concert pianist and critic who was the publisher of The New Criterion (a publication that would review several of McMurtry’s works).

FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR TO LARRY McMURTRY in the year of publication: “For Larry- A few memories- hope you like some of it…”. In 1971, Bogdanovich co-wrote and directed the adaptation of The Last Picture Show, originally written as a semi-autobiographical novel in 1966 of the same name by McMurtry. The film, starring Jeff Bridges, was nominated for eight Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director. In this work, Bogdanovich shares some of his memories working alongside McMurtry and the successes that followed.
