WALTON, Izaak, Charles COTTON, and Robert VENABLES. The Universal Angler. London: Thomas Roycroft for Richard Marriott [Part II, for Henry Brome], 1676.

3 parts in one, 12mo (140 x 89 mm). General title (remargined and laid down, lower corner filled in), 10 engraved vignettes in Part I, repeated in Part III; Part II with engraved vignette on title with Licence leaf preceding title, Part III with additional engraved title (lacking title to Part I, Part II title repaired closed tear, some leaves trimmed and partially affecting headlines). Full modern plum niger gilt, renewed endpapers.

FIFTH EDITION of Walton’s Compleat Angler, the last to be printed in his lifetime and considered by Pforzheimer to be “in many ways the most interesting”. It is published here with the first edition of Cotton’s Compleat Angler and the fourth edition (the third extant, since the second edition was entirely destroyed in the fire of 1666) of Venables’ Experienc'd Angler. While Cotton’s contribution appeared in most subsequent editions of the Compleat Angler, the three authors appeared together only once, in this volume. Pforzheimer 1052; Westwood & Satchell, p. 219; Wing C6381.
