J. F. Jecker Saloon Large Hanging Outdoor Sign. Victoria, TX, ca. 1910s-1920s. Large painted hanging wooden sign incorporating a star symbol, with address number 107. Double-sided, with eyelet hooks on each side (one side with a portion of chain). 95 x 42 x 1 ½”. Expected age wear from outdoor exposure and age, with notation at both sides of sign on bottom (“Moline”). This sign has a small, later note in marker (“Moline”) at the bottom on both sides (C.V. Moline was a sign painter in the Victoria area). The Lone Star saloon was located in Victoria, TX, at 107 W. Constitution St. It was first owned by L. F. Jecker, who sold the business to his brother, Joe, in 1911. The first floor was the saloon, the second floor was a “gentlemen’s club”. We believe that this is the sign that hung outside the saloon after J. F. Jecker purchased it. A turn of the century photograph of the saloon with a hanging sign that resembles this one was published online in 2009 by the Victoria Advocate, in a news article entitled “Vanished from Victoria.” A RARE original pre-Prohibition Texas saloon sign. Third party shipping required.
