[BUFFALO BILL] THE DUMB SPY OF IOWA. [MAQUETTE]. British, ca. 1910. Gouache on board, being the original artwork for the cover of a western pulp (dime) novel, and depicting a wild buckskin-clad figure riding his steed at breakneck speed, one outstretched hand holding a bloody scalp aloft, while two men on the grass at his side look on. Initialed by the artist, “R.P.” in the lower left. 15 × 10¾". One corner chipped, edgewear, but bright and attractive.
