20 parts (10 parts for each year), tall 8vo (254 x 178 mm). 12 large folding maps. Original printed wrappers (the first issues of both years with some soiling or spotting to front covers); each year housed in custom folding chemises with printed labels.
The Journal of the Society for Earth Science of Berlin (English translation) was published in ten volumes each year and included a section entitled “Vorgänge auf Geographischen Gebiet” which translates “Geographical Miscellanies.” In these sections, notices were published that documented expeditions and discoveries around the globe. The issues listed contain a series of detailed notices under the same title, “Die Japanische Südpol-Expedition unter Shirase.” These appear in: June 1911, No. 6, pp. 430-31 (Ross 3.3); March 1912, No. 3, p. 227 (Ross 3.4); June 1912, No. 6, pp. 470-71 (Ross 3.5). Together they document the preparation, progress, and return of the Japanese Antarctic Expedition. Ross 3.3, 3.4, 3.5 (“Very Scarce”).
