This scarce publication provides an overview of Japan’s explorations and scientific investigations in the Antarctic through 1955. The 9 pages dedicated to the Japanese Antarctic Expedition contains interviews conducted by Masuichi Midoro, a journalist from Asahi News Organization with five of only seven surviving staff and crew members of the Japanese Antarctic Expedition: Keiichi Tada, secretary and assistant naturalist; Koutarou Miura, cook; Yukihiko Miyake, interpreter; Kinzaburou Watanabe, cook; Yasunao Taizumi, cinematographer. The article was in recognition of the 45th anniversary of the Japanese Antarctic Expedition’s first departure for the Antarctic. The Asahi News Organization was a primary supporter of the original Japanese Antarctic Expedition. Ross 3.17 (“Very scarce”).
