FIRST EDITION of this paper read before the Royal Geographical Society on 23 January 1865, with the ensuing discussion from other arctic explorers. “Osborn makes a plea for further polar exploration, a statement of the advantages offered by the Baffin Bay-Smith Sound route, some remarks on methods and possible results of such exploration; includes a table of voyages, 1266-1827, compiled by C.R. Markham” (Arctic Bib. 12895).
