PEARY, Robert E. (1856-1920). Discovery of the North Pole. Edited by J. Martin Miller. With an Introduction by A.W. Greely. N.p.: [J.T. Moss, 1909].

Large 8vo. Illustrated throughout. Original gilt-lettered red cloth, pictorial label affixed to upper cover (front hinge cracked at title with old tape repairs at gutter).

FIRST EDITION, A RARE ISSUE with Frederick Cook’s authorship left off of the cover, an updated title-page with Cook’s story “rejected”, and a few pages added at the end discussing the latest developments in the Cook-Peary controversy. Interestingly, the publisher’s forgot to remove the frontispiece of Cook identifying him as the discoverer of the North Pole. [With:] another copy of the more common issue showing authorship of both explorers.
