Original wrappers; various ads, brochures and announcements laid in. Ian Stone began subscribing to Polar Record in 1961 as a young man. He became editor of PR with the January 2008 issue, retired from the position in 2018, and passed away in 2020. (PR no longer produced hard-copy issues after 2014, only electronic.) This set of issues was obtained from Ian’s widow and is now being offered for the first time. The following issues contain laid-in materials showing provenance: September 1984: Ian apparently tore out the article he authored (pp. 305-310), then laid it back in; January 1985: An offprint of a PR article from that issue written by Ann Shirley Savours she inscribed to Ian (pp. 427-429); January 1996: Correspondence between J. J. Stephan and Ian concerning Ian’s review of Stephan’s book (pp. 74-75); January 2000: A letter addressed to then-editor Beau Riffenburgh from the author of a book Ian reviewed (pp. 63-64), with various criticisms, with marginalia; January 2004: A stamped, mailed envelope addressed to Ian (letter removed); July 2004: An offprint of an article Ian authored (pp. 213-220); October 2004: An offprint of an article Ian authored (pp. 303-308).
