SLOCUM, Joshua (1844-1909). Sloop Spray Souvenir. 1895-1898. Edited by Henrietta E. Slocum. [New York: Gilliss Press, 1901].
16mo. Original red printed wrappers (spine sunned, some splitting to front joint at foot, lower fore-corner tear on rear panel).
RARE FIRST EDITION, tipped in with an original main sail from the Spray signed by Slocum which was “torn, beyond repair, in the gale off Cape Horn” and a silver leaf brought back to America from the Cape of Good Hope aboard the Spray. Slocum was the first person to sail single-handedly around the world on his sloop, Spray, which took a little over three years to complete. He disappeared on 14 November 1909 while aboard that same sloop.
