Engraved map with hand-coloring, sight 381 x 470 mm. Ornate cartouche and many sailing ships and sea monsters. First published in the 1573 edition of Ortelius’ Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, the first modern atlas of the world. The map is based upon Mercator’s 1564 wall map of the British Isles in 8 sheets and Lhuyd’s manuscript map of 1568. Handsomely framed and matted, double glazed. Broecke 19 (1579L(B)10).
