8vo. Half-title and one-page publisher’s advertisement for Dodgson's works on Q1v; frontispiece and illustrations by John Tenniel. Original red cloth gilt, edges gilt, black coated endpapers, bound by Burns & Co. with original bookbinder’s ticket on rear pastedown (spine slightly skewed and a bit darkened, some rubbing to joints and extreme ends, some spotting to covers, else a fresh copy). Provenance: L. Russell from J.B. Russell (contemporary gift inscription dated Christmas 1871).

FIRST EDITION, FIRST STATE with the misprint ‘wade’ for ‘wabe’ in the second line of the poem ‘Jabberwocky’ on p. 21 and with the pagination for page 98, but lacking the pagination for page 95 (no priority). AN ATTRACTIVE COPY with a scarce gift inscription dating the actual publication to December 1871 and not 1872 as is printed on the title-page. Lovett 13; Williams-Madan-Green-Crutch 84.
