DODGSON, Charles Lutwidge (“Lewis Carroll”) (1832-1898). An advertisement from Dodgson regarding the misprinted 1893 edition of “Through the Looking-Glass”. Christmas, 1893.
1-page, 8vo. Dodgson writes to the holders of this edition that he is “deeply annoyed to find that the last issue of ‘Through the Looking-Glass’, consisting of the Sixtieth Thousand, has been put on sale without its being noticed that most of the pictures have failed so much, in printing, as to make the book not worth buying.” Dodgson requests that instead of destroying them, he asks them to either return them to Macmillan for an exchange of the next edition or give them away to Mechanics’ Institutes, Village Reading-Rooms, and similar institutions.
