PERKINS, B. F. (American, 1904-1993). Patriotic Painted Gourd. Ca. 1980s. Gourd painted in acrylic. Gourd approximately 15 ½” high. Painted in American flag and Statue of Liberty motifs, with hanging wire. Gourd is signed in block letters. Minor rubbing. Fine. Perkins was a preacher as well as an artist; much of his art is replete with patriotic and religious symbolism. He is one of the most significant of the twentieth-century folk artists.
