JUNGWIRTH, Leonard D. (American, 1903-1963 (or 1964)). Portfolio of 40 Original Sketches. [Ca. 1930s-1940s]. Mainly charcoal on art paper (sketches on 30 sheets - several sheets with double-sided sketches). Includes one watercolor on art paper; one sheet is thin paper. Generally, 25 x 19”. All unsigned. Housed in contemporary cloth-backed portfolio with string-ties (portfolio worn, soiled, spine torn; general wear, some marginal tears or chips to sheets). Good condition. Known primarily for sculpture, Jungworth’s most famous work is his sculpture, The Spartan (1945), (affectionately known as “Sparty”) which was created for Michigan State University. Most of the sketches in this lot are nude studies.
