[AMERICAN CEMETERIES]. The Cincinnati Cemetery of Spring Grove. Report for 1857. Cincinnati: C. F. Bradley & Co., 1857. 8vo. With panoramic folded tinted lithograph of “Spring Grove Lake” and with 20 lithographed plates (some of which are tinted). Publisher’s brown pebbled cloth, boards ruled in blind, front board lettered in gilt, pink endleaves (spine a bit sunned, binding somewhat worn with some tears, soiling, some toning, soiling to endleaves, some toning, foxing to text and plates). FIRST EDITION of what is thought to be the only extensively illustrated report issued by the owners of this cemetery. This cemetery was established in 1845, based on other American cemeteries (including Mount Auburn in Cambridge, Greenwood in New York, and Laurel Hill in Philadelphia). Although there is a plates list in this book that calls for 48 plates, auction records and institutional holdings indicate that extant copies vary in number of plates bound-in (no plates have been removed from this copy).
