Near contemporary full tree calf, spine ruled in gilt, black gilt morocco lettering label, all edges stained red (some wear to binding, front joint starting, front hinge starting, a few early gutters starting, contemporary manuscript ink notes and signatures on verso of title-page, some occasional soiling, foxing in text). An early pocket edition of the seven books of the Old Testament. Gryphius was one of the most prominent and prolific printers in Lyon. He introduced the italic type of Aldus Manutius to France. He printed several pocket editions of Latin classics.
