GOLDSMITH, Oliver (1728-1744). The Traveller, a Poem. London: T. Carnan and F. Newberry junr., 1774. 4to. Lacking p. [i], possibly a half-title. With engraved title-page. Contemporary half brown calf over marbled boards, rebacked in modern brown morocco, spine stamped in gilt (binding worn, soiled, joints reinforced with cloth, text toned, foxed, creased, catalogue description affixed to ffep, title-page re-mounted). Provenance: RICHARD BRINSLEY SHERIDAN’S (1751-1816) COPY, with his bookplate on the front pastedown, with an ink-stamp “RBS” on title-page (most likely a later ink-stamp), with a later blue ink notation next to Sheridan’s bookplate “From Frampton Court home of the Sheridans.” Sheridan is the author of The School for Scandal, The Rivals, and many more.
