HOGG, James (1770-1835). Queen Hyunde. A Poem, in Six Books. London: Longman, Hurst, Orme, Brown, and Green, 1825. 8vo. Publisher’s purple cloth, printed paper spine label (spine and board-edges sunned and somewhat worn, some wear, soiling to boards, endleaves foxed, hinges starting, text with occasional foxing). Provenance: armorial bookplate (“Exum”) on front pastedown. A shepherd who was self-educated, Hogg started writing and eventually became friends with Sir Walter Scott, Lord Byron, William Wordsworth, and more. His most famous prose work is Confessions of a Justified Sinner (1824). Wordsworth wrote a tribute poem (Upon the Death of James Hogg).
