DOYLE, Adrian Conan (1910-1970). A small archive of letters to John H. Roberts and several books authored by Adrian.
Includes: 2 TLS and 3 ALS (with original envelopes). Adrian corresponds with an Australian “connoisseur of [his] father’s writings” with discussions regarding The Hound of the Baskervilles and the inspiration behind the story. “The phantom hound has no connection with any family, but was simply a case of a spectral dog of vast size that had been seen during the watches of the night by farmers and moorland shepherds. This tiny item appealed immensely to my father, and upon it he developed a plot that resulted in ‘The Hound of the Baskervilles’”. In others, Adrian writes about Sherlock Holmes, Edgar W. Smith, and the Baker Street Irregulars. [Also with:] 6 publications by Adrian including The True Conan Doyle (London: John Murray, 1945), inscribed on the cover to Roberts.
