[SHERLOCK HOLMES ASSOCIATION]. SARASATE, Pablo de (1844-1908). Program for Sarasate’s Grand Violin Recital at St. George’s Hall, Liverpool, Saturday Afternoon, May 8th, 1886. Liverpool: J. B. Cramer & Co., 1886.
8vo on folding 4to sheet. Approximately 8 x 10 ½” unfolded. Creased, toned, foxed, lower corners rounded (with some chipping). This curious Sherlock Holmes-related artifact harkens back to the mention of Sarasate in The Adventure of the Red-Headed League, where Sarasate played at St. James’ Hall, which Holmes greatly enjoyed, “wrapped in the most perfect happiness, gently waving his long, thin fingers in time to the music.” Sarasate was a performer and composer of great fame in his day.
