RHEAD, Louis J. (British-American, 1857-1926). How the Brigadier Played for a Kingdom Will Shortly Appear in [no newspaper or periodical printed in blank area]. New York: Hinds and Ketcham for Bacheller, Johnson & Bacheller, 1895. Lithograph poster depicting a mounted soldier riding hard through a forest with trees marked with “T”. Signed by Rhead with initials at right margin. Approximately 47 ¾ x 30 ½”. Linen backed. Rolled. Three vertical and three horizontal creases, edgeworn with some marginal chipping and several tears, several interior creases, some inpainting (and possible restoration) at creases. Rhead was an important poster and advertising artist, as well as illustrating several children’s books. This poster is incredibly rare, being one of only two known copies - this copy is more unusual that it lacks the overprint of the publication where this short story (the eighth story of the Gerard saga) appeared.
