HOWARTH, Walt (American, 1930-2008). Original painting of profiles of Jeremy Brett and Basil Rathbone as Holmes. [Ca. 1990s-2000s]. Acrylic on illustration board, depicting profiles of the two of the most beloved portrayals of Holmes on film or video - Rathbone is in black and white, and Brett is in full color, with the door to 221B Baker Street in the background. Signed at lower right corner. Approximately 17 x 12”. Evidently this is a commission piece, with the previous owner’s (Gary Watton) ownership sticker on verso. Howarth was a prolific comic artist, illustrating comic covers for World Distributors (titles include John Wayne Adventure Comics, The Avengers, Bewitched, James Bond, Danger Man - he is best known for his artwork for Doctor Who Annual and Dalek Annual).
