[CIVIL WAR]. Group of Three Signed Documents, Three Soldier’s or Civilian’s Letters, and a Drawing. [V.p., ca. 1860s-1909]. Sizes range from 12 ½ x 7 ½ to 2 ½ x 4 ½”. Generally worn, creased. soiled. Good. Documents include Treasury Department, Confederate States Second Auditor’s Office application for pay for a deceased soldier (manuscript writing faded), United Daughters of the Confederacy application for the Confederate Cross of Honor for a chaplain (application dated 1909), an appointment of a chaplain to the 1st Volunteer Battalion, signed by the Governor of Ohio, Thomas W. Bartley. Letters cover topics of a civilian writing to a soldier about life at home during the war, a flowery response to a “Dear John” letter written by a Confederate soldier, a Union soldier describing camp life, and a small double-sided pencil drawing (“Robertson Tavern” and “Fort built by the Rebels, taken by the 6th Home Reg. Nov. 7…”).
