[SHEET MUSIC]. [HORROR]. Group of Eight Sheet Music with Frightening Imagery on Front Covers. [V.p., ca. 1850s-1860s]. Beautiful lithographed front covers, three in black and white, five in color or tinted. 4tos. Approximately 14 x 10”. Some general wear, soiling, spines generally worn, or repaired, one sheet is only the front cover (Tam O’Shanter). A very good group. Titles include: Tam O’Shanter (with imagery of a rider at night being chased by spirits), St. George of England (St. George on horseback trampling fierce dragon), Have You Seen the Ghost? (a ghost somewhat similar to Dickens’ Jacob Marley, trying to hire a hansom cab), Blue Beard (a portrait of a fierce man with a blue beard drawing his sword), The Witch’s Whirl Waltzes (a witch conjuring a vision of dancing woman out of her cauldron), Une Distraction du Diable (the Devil seated on his throne, watching smaller demons dancing with maidens), Bugaboo Schottisch (Krampus (?) stealing children and putting them into his sack), Spring-Heel’d Jack Galop (depicting the demonic Spring-Heeled Jack leaping over rooftops). From the Mark Rucker Collection.
