String-binding lacking string, spine worn, chipped due to removal of string binding, toned, foxed, soiled. Very good. Rare. The “Know Nothing” party was deeply xenophobic (including anti-Irish, anti-Catholic, anti-German, etc.); it came from the older Whig party. “Know Nothing” elected officials established various anti-immigrant laws throughout the country (for example, Chicago mayor Levi Boone forbade immigrants from having city jobs) From the Mark Rucker Collection.
