AGRA, Zalumma. Group of Three CDV Portraits of Agra (Including Two Hand-Colored Portraits) and a Group of Five Portraits of Imitators. [V.p., ca. 1860s-1880s]. Cartes de visite on photographer’s mounts. Photos generally 3 ½ x 2 ¼”. Mounts generally 4 x 2 ½”. Some toning, rubbing, occasional soiling, a few with short marginal tears. An excellent group. From the Mark Rucker Collection. Agra was a “Circassian” beauty (Circassians are historically believed to be among the most beautiful and intelligent women), but in reality was an actress hired by P. T. Barnum to be featured in his various side shows. Likewise, the imitators in this lot performed in similar venues.
