[THEATRE]. BOOTH, Edwin (1833-1893). CDV of Booth in Costume as “Iago” in “Othello”. New York: Sarony, [ca. 1860s-1870s]. On photographer’s mount. Photo approximately 3 ½ x 2 ½”. Mount approximately 4 x 2 ½”. Upper corners of mount and photo neatly trimmed a bit, lower left corner of mount neatly trimmed. Excellent. Although one of the most famous actors of his day (known for his portrayal of Hamlet), today he is perhaps best known as being the brother of assassin John Wilkes Booth (1838-1865). Although cabinet photos of Booth are common, photos of him in costume as a character are far less common. From the Mark Rucker Collection.
