[BASEBALL]. BLACKWELL, Ewell (1922-1996) and MEANEY, Tom (1903-1964). Original Souvenir Photo of Blackwell and Meaney at the Bar at “Sloppy Joe’s Bar” in Havana, Cuba. [Sloppy Joe’s Bar, Havana, ca. 1930s-1940s]. Black and white photo of both men at the bar raising cocktails to the photographer, on the original “Sloppy Joe’s Bar” mount. Photo 7 x 5”. Mount 9 ¼ x 7 ¼”. Excellent condition of photo and mount, and a charming and unusual image. Blackwell was a pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds, New York Yankees, and Kansas City Athletics; he was a six-time All-Star and a World Series champion. Meaney was a famous New York sports writer, and later worked for the New York Mets. In 1975, he was posthumously voted the J. G. Taylor Spink Award, the highest award offered by the Baseball Writers Association of America. From the Mark Rucker Collection.
