[BASEBALL]. “Catcher.” [Ca. early 20th century]. Humorous lithograph depicting a catcher being struck in his mid-section by a baseball, with a poem below. Approximately 9 ¾ x 7”. Some toning, some faint creasing at corners, upper left corner lightly chipped. Very good. “You knotty-fingered, awkward brute, You wear a pad, beneath your band, For in your stomach still, you catch, The ball more often than your hand! Although you make a great pretense, Of stooping down and watching round; Your butter-fingers drop the ball, Tho’ in your very hands it bounds.” An excellent example of this rare and charming lithograph. From the Mark Rucker Collection.
