[BASEBALL]. [LINCOLN, Abraham (1809-1865), association]. “Abraham Lincoln President of the United States” 1862 Native American Peace Medal. Original bronze medallion with an embossed profile of Lincoln on the front, and an embossed design of a Native American man preparing to “scalp” another man and bust of a Native American female, with an inset view of Native Americans farming and the FIRST SCENE OF BASEBALL TO BE DEPICTED IN METAL. Medal is 2 ? ” in diameter. Attached by a short string to a red velvet collar with embroidered designs of flowers with decorative cloth borders, fringes, and lined on the reverse in red cloth. Some wear to the medal (the sculptor’s name beneath the Lincoln profile is nearly obliterated, as is the baseball scene on the reverse), collar is worn, soiled. Overall, a very good example of this award. From the Mark Rucker Collection.
