[BASEBALL]. Original Press Photograph of Luis Aparicio Sr. and Luis Aparicio Jr., PSA Type I Authentic. [November 18, 1953]. Handsome sepia-toned original photograph (5 ½ x 4 ¼”) depicting the two Aparicios, both in their uniforms of the Gavilanes de Maracaibo, the legendary Venezuelan baseball team, which Luis Sr. managed (and previously co-founded). On the verso of the photo, it states in pencil “Luis Aparicio, “Padre” su [?] Luis Jr.” Some scuffing, glue residue on verso, minor occasional edgewear, front is near pristine. After emigrating to the United States, Luis Jr. won many awards and honors, including the 1956 AL Rookie of the Year, a nine-time Golden Glove winner, nine-time AL stolen base leader, and he played with the Chicago White Sox, Baltimore Orioles, and the Boston Red Sox. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1984. Photos of the young Luis Jr. in Venezuela are exceedingly rare. Encapsulated by PSA, Type I Authentic. From the Mark Rucker Collection.
