Black and white press photo with typed caption affixed to top edge (7 x 9”), depicting a happy Joe Horlen being congratulated by teammates and a uniformed man after pitching a no-hitter (the White Sox beat the Detroit Tigers 6 - 0). On the verso are pencil notes “full hit [?] 510 PM 9/10/67” as well as the UPI inkstamp. Minor creasing to upper left corner, some faint soiling on verso, editor’s ink markings on typed caption. Superb; a one-of-a-kind photo. Joel Edward Horlen was a pitcher for the Chicago White Sox and Oakland Athletics; he was an All-Star and AL ERA leader in 1967 (the same year as this photo), a World Series champion (1972).
