[BASEBALL]. Original Acme Newspictures World Series Opener Photo of the New York Yankees and Giants Playing at Yankee Stadium, PSA Type I Authentic. [New York: Acme Newspictures, October 4, 1951]. Original black and white photo (7 x 9”) photo with teletype caption affixed on verso, and with Acme inkstamp, also on verso. Some toning, rubbing, a few faint creases. An excellent long distance photo of the first game of the 1951 World Series. “LOADED IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE NEW YORK: Bobby Thomson, of the Giants, hits a safe single to load the bases in the top-half of the third inning of the ‘51 World Series opener in the Yankee Stadium on Oct. 4th. Whitey Lockman goes to Second, and Monte Irvin to third on Thomson’s single. This sort of thing had the Yankees yelping right down to the ninth inning, when a lock at the score board showed that the glamorous Giants had won the opener, 5-1.” Encapsulated by PSA, Type I Authentic. From the Mark Rucker Collection.
