[BOXING CABINET CARD]. BURNS, Tommy (1881-1951). Cabinet Photo of Burns Sparring with an Unknown Opponent. [London]: Reinhold Thiele & Co., [ca. 1900s]. Large cabinet card photo on photographer’s mount. Photo approximately 5 ½ x 4”. Mount approximately 6 ½ x 4 ¼”. Some toning to photo and mount, some edgewear of mount, small piece of tape on verso. With SGC slip (20 Fair 1.5). Burns was the Heavyweight Champion of the World and is the only Canadian to have held that title. He was the first boxer to travel internationally to defend that title (13 different bouts against 11 boxers). Burns famously agreed to defend his title against Jack Johnson (Burns was the first boxer to agree to defend a title against an African-American), who took the title from Burns. Rare.
