[Springfield, Mass.: Besse, Carpenter & Co., ca. 19th century]. Color lithographed trade card depicting a large football player carrying a football as well as three smaller defenders, text on verso. Approximately 5 ¾ x 3 ¾”. Some edgewear, light soiling, a few marginal tears (with corresponding tape repairs to verso), verso is scuffed, worn, with some loss of text. A good example of this rare and charming trade card, with an early depiction of American football. From the Mark Rucker Collection.
