John Barrymore Oversize Inscribed Lobby Photo in Art Deco Frame. Enlarged photograph portrait by Maurice Seymour (Chicago) of John Barrymore (1882—1942). The photograph is INSCRIBED in the lower image area to the Selwyn Theatre: “To the Selwyn-/Thanks in memory/of a delightful/Engagement-and/with sincere thanks/for Everyone connected/with the Theatre/John Barrymore.” Barrymore was the lead actor in “My Dear Children” at the Selwyn Theatre in Chicago in 1939. Barrymore would reportedly forget large portions of his lines in the play and ad-lib through his part, with heavy profanity. The show was a success nonetheless and played in several theaters, although Barrymore was censured for his profanity-laced performance in Omaha. Set in a large original Art Deco mirrored frame, 84 x 45”. An impressive association item.
